The world is united in its Love of Mermaids. From Greece to Germany, or Japan to Denmark, nearly all cultures have some sort legend of a mystical being that is part woman, and part fish. Perhaps no country is more enamoured with the Mermaid than Poland, whose legendary Syrena adorns the Coat of Arms of its capital city of Warsaw, and where a majestic Syrena statue forms the centerpiece of the Warsaw Old Town Market Square. For centuries, the ancient Polish legend of the beautiful Syrena has been a defining part of Polish culture and folklore. As post-war Warsaw lay in ruins around her, a Syrena statue stood unscathed, defiant, miraculously spared from the ravages of war. And the legend grew.

In June 1955, the first Syrena automobile was officially presented to the world at the Poznan International Fair. The Syrena was a symbol of a deep-rooted connection to a powerful legend, and perhaps more than a subtle resistance to tyranny. Over the years, Syrena came to be known as the "Queen of Polish Motorways" as production continued until 1983. Generations have grown up with the Syrena automobile, and now regrettably generations have been without it, but Syrena remains Poland's greatest automotive brand, because it is more than a car. It is a legend.

On February 14, 2012, Arkadiusz Kaminski founded AK Motor International Corporation, an automotive intellectual property management company. Through an agreement with FSO (Fabryka Samochodow Osobowych), the original manufacturer of the Syrena, AK Motor has acquired the exclusive rights to develop, manufacture, and market automobiles under the Syrena brand. The benefit of this arrangement is that the official Syrena brand now has a solid legal framework under which new automobiles can be produced. The new AK Syrena automobile is already in development, with the potential to create many jobs when the project comes to fruition. Moreover, the AK Syrena will create many other lucrative opportunities for international investors, partners and suppliers who wish to participate in the renaissance of this great brand. The plan is to manufacture the car in Poland for an international market. The new AK Syrena is more than a car, and more than a legend. It is a symbol of Poland's desire to share its Syrena legend with the global community, and to contribute to the international dialogue surrounding green technological innovation, growth and mutual prosperity.

Beautiful Fighting Spirit - The meaning of Syrena as Brand and Symbol

Henry Ford once said, "Whether you think you can, or you can't, you're right."

I speak on behalf of the team at AK Motor International Corporation when I say that I agree with this statement, and that it applies to the Syrena brand of automobiles. As of June 30, 2013 it has been 30 years since the last Syrena automobile rolled off the assembly line at the FSM (Fabryka Samochodow Malolitrazowych) plant in Bielsko-Biala, Poland. Today the Syrena brand is active once again, but with the recent passing of this milestone, it is a time for reflection. It is a time to consider the true meaning of Syrena as a brand and as a symbol. It is a time to think about what was lost on that day 30 years ago, and how it impacts Poland today. It is a time for Poles all over the world to consider how they feel about this loss and if they are willing to accept the status quo, or if they want change. At AK Motor International Corporation, we do not accept a future without new Syrena automobiles on the road. We have committed ourselves to not only dreaming of change, but to charting a rational business strategy that involves solving empirical, difficult and pragmatic questions about "how" we are going to do it.

Founded in Canada, on February 14, 2012, AK Motor International Corporation is an automotive intellectual property management company. Our focus is on brand asset management, technological and business innovation, as well as property monetization and licensing. In structuring our organization along these lines, we are establishing a new business model which provides the best chance of success for the Syrena brand of automobiles. We do not plan to own our own factories. By outsourcing the manufacturing operations we are creating an opportunity for existing manufacturers to benefit from the demand in new Syrena automobiles. Part sourcing for the new Syrena will also be outsourced to third party suppliers. These providers will be able to benefit more from working with AK Motor than from working with other competitive brands. Our operating model is simply much leaner, and with very little overhead costs so our profit margins will be very competitive.

As the new Syrena cars come to market, new dealerships will be able to function independently as franchise operations. This will allow dealers to not only sell and service cars but to also grow revenues operating as stylish, trendy multi service and product category boutiques offering a variety of official licensed products based on the Syrena brand. Our plan includes the creation of licensing opportunities for potential partners so that the Syrena brand will grow across multiple product categories, in addition to cars. We are likewise open to cross-promotional sponsorships and marketing campaigns with domestic Polish and international brands. Through participation in such campaigns we will allow other brands to benefit from our international exposure.

There is also a vision for a Syrena Sport racing league which will benefit sponsors, promote the Syrena brand and its technologies, and allow fans to see their favourite Syrena cars in racing action. In as much as this will promote Poland and its brands on the international stage, this strategy will also introduce Syrena to people who have never heard of the brand. Effectively, such an approach will open a gateway for the international expansion of the Syrena brand. In this way, the success of AK Motor's new Syrena program relies on providing an even greater benefit to its partners. Indeed, our true success will be measured by the success of our partners. I am committed to this approach and believe it is the way to grow the brand globally. It is my objective to communicate some of these key elements of our growth strategy, but I think it is equally important today to think about the justifications for our business initiatives.

As we prepare to launch Syrena as a new player on the global automotive stage it is important to ask, "what is the meaning of the Syrena brand?" In answering this question, we will effectively answer the question as to "why" this brand must be resurrected. It is one thing to build a car, but it is another thing entirely to justify choosing a certain brand over another for this car. With most automobile brands on the road today offering a level of performance and function that is very similar to their competitors of the same price-point, the brands distinguish themselves through the "meaning" they convey to buyers. What is the meaning of the brand of car you drive right now? Some brands offer prestige, others frugality, some offer sportiness, while others offer quality, or strength, or durability. Essentially, a brand has to offer a series of values which will resonate with the intended market and to which someone can subscribe to. To what extent can the Syrena brand effectively do this? Naturally it can be easily seen why Poles will desire cars under their home Syrena brand, but what about the international market? To answer these questions, it should be understood that Syrena is more than a brand. It is not a by-product of an oppressive regime. It is an ancient legend, spanning no less than 8 centuries. And it is also a symbol, rife with meaning which transcends the nuts and bolts of an automobile as easily as it transcends international borders.

According to Stefan K. Kuczynski's book Syrena Warszawska, a seal with the Syrena icon representing the city of Warsaw dates back to the year 1400. Although the Syrena legend predates this year, we have accepted it as the year of the beginning of the Syrena brand. For those who are saddened by the fact that the last Syrena automobile rolled off the assembly line 30 years ago, they can take solace in the fact that the Syrena legend has endured through 8 centuries. Surely a brand or symbol whose significance has lasted this long has lost none of its potency during a mere 30 year absence in the automotive industry. Perhaps this 30-year absence should be viewed as a gestation period and was in fact necessary for people to truly appreciate the significance of Syrena as a brand. Surely the absence of Syrena automobiles must somehow contribute to the demand for Syrena automobiles which is greater than ever.

There is much hope and plenty of reason to believe that Syrena will rise again as a strong automotive brand. Inherent in the Syrena brand is a symbol whose meaning transcends borders. The enduring values which the legendary Syrena represents to the Poles are the same values held by free thinking individuals the world over. Syrena is a beautiful mermaid; part woman, part fish, wielding a sword and shield, and wearing a crown. She is at once poised to fight for what is beautiful in life and to defend it. Syrena is not a deity, but she personifies a Beautiful Fighting Spirit. Regardless of political stripe or creed, Syrena is a symbol that every Pole agrees to love. She is a unifying force. Whether a struggle is on a grand scale or on a personal day-to-day scale, the Beautiful Fighting Spirit of Syrena transcends all boundaries. She represents the struggle that everyone endures as they strive to improve their own lives and the lives of others as much as she represents so many other struggles. This is a set of values which no other automotive brand in the world offers and it is why the Syrena brand of automobiles must be revived as a global brand. There are legends of mermaids in nearly every culture. Everyone loves mermaids!

I am committed to producing well-engineered, stylish, affordable and energy efficient automobiles imbued with the same Beautiful Fighting Spirit under the Syrena brand both for the domestic Polish market and outside the borders of my birthplace. Poland faces an incredibly exciting and prosperous economic and political future, but there is neither room nor time for stagnation. Poland's ability to create wealth and prosperity is inevitable. While the country successfully embraces and leverages its own technological development and innovative capabilities, it must also recognize the potential of its intangible assets and intellectual properties; the "Polish Brands". Of all the automotive brands Poland has ever had, Syrena is their Queen and has no equal. It is the most valuable and has true potential for international success.

The only possible obstacle to Syrena's success as a global brand are those who say it can't be done. For as Henry Ford was quoted above, these people are equally correct as those who think it can be done. It all comes down to a simple choice. If you choose a better future, a future with a Beautiful Fighting Spirit, like us at facebook.com/AK.Syrena.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE FUTURE OF THE SYRENA AUTOMOTIVE BRAND

Fabryka Samochodow Osobowych S.A. and Polish-Canadian industrial designer Arkadiusz Kaminski, founder and CEO of AK Motor International Corporation, have ratified an agreement governing the future of the Syrena brand. Under the agreement, FSO retains historic rights as the manufacturer of Syrena cars in the past under the original FSO Syrena brand, while AK Motor has acquired official and exclusive rights to develop, produce, and market AK Syrena cars.

The AK Syrena automotive design from AK Motor draws some inspiration from the original FSO Syrena. This will serve to highlight FSO's past design accomplishments to its potential clients. FSO has affirmed that it will not use the Syrena brand in the future in connection with the production of its own new vehicles. The AK Syrena project allows for the brand to be rebuilt under the guidance of AK Motor without impacting FSO's core business of manufacturing vehicles for other clients. The doors remain open for a co-operative effort between FSO and AK Motor, whereby AK Motor may well be FSO's manufacturing client.

According to Arkadiusz Kaminski, "The plan is to produce the AK Syrena in Poland, on an existing platform at least initially, and if possible in a future scenario, in conjunction with FSO. This Polish car, will also serve as a platform to foster green technological innovation. Poland and the surrounding region would stand to benefit greatly from the AK Syrena program in many ways. It may not be readily apparent to the casual observer, but the talented designers at FSO had in fact left an automotive legacy for future generations that is a clean, rational, elegantly simple, and timeless design with perennial appeal."

Sadly, the technological and economical limitations behind the iron curtain prevented the FSO Syrena from realizing its full potential internationally. However, since nearly every culture worldwide has some sort of legend of a lovely mermaid, a new interpretation of classic Polish styling inspired by the Syrena mermaid legend, and combined with the latest in automotive technology will ensure that the AK Syrena is well received in both domestic and international markets.

AK Motor will be releasing additional details about the AK Syrena Koncept 1 "Meluzyna" in the coming months as well as particulars about their business development strategy.
